Dr. Tung Giep has been a practicing neonatologist for more than thirty years. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at The Medical University of South Carolina before completing his fellowship at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
His background includes board certification in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, ics, and over twenty-five years as a medical director in community hospitals. Dr. Giep founded and served as president of Newborn Intensive Care Specialists (NICS) for seventeen years, where he and his staff provided hospitals with 24/7 neonatology, pediatric hospitalist, and Maternal Fetal Medicine programs. The company was sold in 2017.
Hailing from a medical family—his dad and three brothers were all doctors—he was determined to succeed in the field of medicine. His family escaped to the US from Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War when he was a teen, an experience that helped him become resilient and establish a strong sense of humility, integrity, and gratitude revealed in his approach to his work and life. From the very beginning of his career, his driving force has been to make a difference in patients’ lives and to help shape the future of the healthcare system.
As a respected figure in the medical field, he has led the initiative to implement an innovative telemedicine program that provides 24/7 access to neonatologists, helping to avoid unnecessary transfers and provide more comprehensive care.
He serves as director of community hospital nurseries and manages the development of the neonatal telemedicine program for hospitals affiliated with a Children’s hospital on the East Coast. He credits much of his success to a diverse background that includes clinical, business, entrepreneurship, and financial expertise, along with his innate ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. His continuous focus on a collaborative and integrated approach to healthcare has helped him create a seamless and best-in-class healthcare experience for all, with the patient and the families at the forefront.
